I hope this is in the right spot sorry mods.

We'll be staying at my mums for a while once the house we're now in settles and the room that Jasper will sleep in only has venetian blinds in it. What can I make or buy to blockout ALL the light? He needs it pretty dark in his room or he wont sleep

I *think* theres a curtain rod on the pelmet (the blinds are recessed) but I worry about all the light that will come in around the edges. Its a pretty bright room normally.

We have a dark brown doona cover just thrown over the top of the venetian. Blocks out all light. Doesn't look very good but does the job.

I bought some blockout curtain fabric from lincraft and attached it around the window sill with velcro. I think it's about $17 a metre.

you really need some heavy curtains. Why don't you check out ebay or a car boot sale. You could just hang up some block out fabric but would probably cost you more than buying some simple curtains second hand.

Tapster how did you attach the velcro so it wouldnt damage the wall? How much velcro would you need to carry the fabric weight?

Oh, thanks Red. That stuff seems temporary (says not to leave it on for extended periods in direct sunlight). I'll need something a bit more permanent.

Georgia - eBay is a great idea thanks :)

We have the window covered in foil. Looks horrible from the outside, but nobody sees it and it works a treat!

Omzie how do you attach the foil? Just taped? My mum is in a rental so we need something that can easily be removed without taking away any paint.

I've just got it stuck to the window with sticky tape (in sheets). But friends of mine said they do theirs with water, sort of like wallpaper - apparently you wet the glass then roll it on and press it down flat. I'm too lazy to take mine off and do it again cos its a PITA, but once its on its very good at blocking the light and keeping the hot/cold out.

Glad I found this thread, I am going to get a roll of foil next time down the shop and try that with our windows more to try and block out the cold then light but blocking out the light would be an added bonus, atm we just use a doona cover over the blinds to block out light.

How well does the foil thing work in summer? I am getting images of doing my whole house this coming summer.
