Thanks ladies :) I was a bit embarrassed of my dodgy teddy bear but I was happy with the rest of it. And it was really yummy, which is always good!

Wow you girls have been busy making some stunning cakes.

Tanya, Will saw the Mater one and went nuts and you cupcakes are simply gorgeous.

Bubbles, your cake decorations are so cute.

Aprilbaby, the teddy bear is totally adorable, not dodgy at all!

As for me, I signed up to make my niece's first birthday cake, my first time making a serious cake. My sister wanted a separate cake for my niece to smash so I had the idea of making a ladybug cake to put on top of a leaf that could be easily removed from the main cake. I learnt so many new thing like adding tylose powder to fondant to make it dry harder, how gel colours are so much better to work with than the stupid liquid food colours you buy at the supermarket and that adding blue food colouring to buttercream icing makes it look less yellow. I also made a cupcake stand using plant pots, cake boards, cardboard and ribbon.

My sister made the cupcakes and bought the cupcake decorations, I just iced and decorated them for her.

I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out and seriously can't believe I pulled it off, best part though was the fact that it was also really yummy. Everyone kept asking my sister where she bought it from and they all whinged that there wasn't more cause they wanted seconds!

Tanya, did you send that Mater cake to a sick little boy at Bear Cottage at all? Looks fantastic!

Hi girls,

I'm hoping for a little help with some cupcakes. I'm doing a monster party for Eamon's birthday, and I'm thinking of doing cupcakes similar to these:-

or these, a little simpler:-

And I just have a couple of questions. Would the toppers be made purely from fondant? And would you just make them on a board, then stick them on top of the iced cupcake? That seems like it would be the easiest way?

Wasn't me honey. :)

Leesa-the first cupcakes are just fondant but the 2nd toppers are fondant with bit of tylose powder to harden. You can use like satin ice gumpaste but I would mix in some normal fondant as well to make it a bit softer. I use S.I it for my flowers because they set like rock. Just get some fondant, colours as a set of round cutters and a small rolling pin and you can do them no worries.

Depending on the recipe you can freeze them for months. :)
