Urgent help needed re. Pressure cooker - bought it :)

Mon Jul 22, 2013 1:24 pm

There is a Robeson and a Bellini pressure cookers in target on sale. I need a rice cooker and am wondering if I will get use out of a pressure cooker? It's not much dearer than a rice cooker would be, we'll it is, haha.

So do you have one? Do you use it?

I don't have one. As far as I can tell, all its good for is creating slow cooked meals, quickly. And I don't slow cook that much, and I'm personally not prepared to store another appliance for those few unorganised occasions.

Do you slow cook now? Eat a lot of stewa/roast things?

I do, but I do most things with my Chassuer pot on the stove and my slow cooker isn't used much now because I prefer my Chassuer pot.

I probably should just buy a cheapie rice cooker.

I need to decide in the next half hour or so before I leave town to go home. It won't be on special next time I'm in town...

I mostly use ours as a rice cooker, very occasionally I'll put apricot chicken in there of something.

I considered getting one... but the reason I love the slow cooker is being able to do all the prep at a convenient time during the day and then just serving up dinner during the crazy afternoon time. With a pressure cooker the meal prep would be in the late afternoon anyway. I can see how it'd be great after work for some people.

I bought one...
It has a timer, so you can do all the prep and set the timer to start up to 23.5hrs later, not that you'd leave uncooked food sitting out for that long.

It says you can cook cakes in it too! I find that odd, but I'll have to play with it a bit and look for some recipes.

I doubt I'll love it and already regret it a bit... Isn't that terrible :( I had to go back into target to grab a mattress protector and just went stuff it, I'll take it. As long as it cooks rice as well as the rice cooker did ill be happy and I'm actually keen to try it with risottos and soup.

I'll be sure to report back :) thanks to you all.

Hey, you needed a rice cooker, and this cooks rice. Bonus, you might actually use it as a pressure cooker. If its in the budget, why not?

Megs, I might have been wrong. I'll play with it tomorrow and check. It says timer, but that might be cooking timer? Though I've no idea why you'd want to cook something for 23.5hrs?
It's al quite complicated really haha.

Urgent help needed re. Pressure cooker

So tonight I cooked a beef pot roast in it and
Omfg, it was easy, quick and it turned out amazingly well!!!

I used a topside roast that wasn't comp, etely thawed, added beef stock and some other stuff and cooked it for 50 mins. Then I put in carrots and potatoes for another 15mins and boom, dinners done!!!

It still had a roast beef texture, nothing like a slow cooker would do, but I'd never get a topside that tender in either a slow cooker or in the oven. The flavour was fantastic and DH absolutely loved it!!

Tomorrow I'm going to do a risotto in it, I'll report back after that :)
