We've been invited to our friends' place for Christmas lunch, on the proviso that I bring this trifle  I was talking about it at lapsit yesterday, and then miraculously we were invited for lunch!

I'm making this for my mum's party on Saturday and I was just wondering about the mudcake - if you buy it premade does it matter if it is iced or not? I will try to make one but may not have time. Thanks - can't wait to try this :P :P

Yeah it will work for sure with those ingredients - as long as you like coffee of course :) Homemade custard would be divine!

Ok, so Dad and I are having a "Christmas Trifle Off" (he makes an awesome trifle).
So what's the general consensus? Do I need one bought mud cake (Coles) or two?
I have to win

TIA x

My bowl is a pretty average size (not big, not teeny tiny) - I bought all the ingredients yesterday and am doing the jelly now, and starting to soak in a little bit - not sure what to do (my Baileys is a little aged - ermmm best by date of Oct 2010 - d'oh!!) for the cake soaking part.. I CAN'T WAIT!!

I didn't want to use mud cake so I made my own chocolate sponge yesterday so it's a little bit lighter. Will sandwich it with cherry jam, then soak in cherry brandy. The jelly is set, so I'm going to put together this afternoon. Am doing individual cups as I need a few non alcoholic cups for the kiddies.

Epic fail for me, put too much baileys in the cake layers. Ended up a soupy mess :(
Also think I needed two packets of jelly. Ah well!
