Black Forest Trifle

Mon Jul 14, 2008 8:44 pm

This is, IMHO, the BEST trifle recipe I've ever had!!! :D :D

Ingredients:
1 chocolate mud cake (I buy them from Woolies, or you can make it) roughly chopped
1 pkt port wine jelly, made up and roughly chopped
1 jar morello cherries
Baileys
1 600ml custard
2 flakes, crushed (easier to do while in package)
Whipped cream
1 flake, crushed - extra

Method:
Line the bottom of a glass bowl with some of the mud cake. Soak with Baileys. Layer with custard, cherries, jelly and flake.
Repeat until you have run out of cake. Finish with whipped cream, and decorate with cherries and flake.

DELISH.. and better if you make it the day before as the flavours will soak through.

Enjoy!

Those instructions don't actually tell you what to do with the Jelly ;-)

I'm guessing you layer it with the custard etc though?

Sounds absolutely delish, may have to make it next time I get the chance :D

I know I said I was going to keep this for when we have friends over but had a housewarming to go to last night so took it along and it was awesome. Received rave reviews from adults and kids alike. Definitely a keeper for the recipe book.

Awesome!! :D It's definitely a crowd pleaser - I cannot get away with not making it for the family Christmas!! 8)

Hmmmm... maybe you could use a mixture of milk, chocolate powder and brewed coffee? It would give a similar effect but without the alcohol hit :D

I'd love to make this too but dont drink so have no Baileys in the house...not liking the sound of milk, choc, coffee either so I guess I will drool over this one until I find something to replace the Baileys

How about just strong (not milky) coffee? The coffee flavour would go well with the chocolate. Otherwise you could try coke for a sweeter taste? You wouldn't really taste the coke flavour, the chocolate would disguise it, and you only need to add enough to moisten the cake layers.
