Not counting teaching (around 30) I've looked after 9 (aged between 4 and 8) at birthday party. I don't know if that counts though - no other adults were INVOLVED in any way, but there were a couple sitting in another area of the house doing their own thing. So if anything had gone wrong I could have called one of them in to help.
It was only a couple of hours and there were organised games, so I didn't find it that stressful. I think that's also the difference with teaching - there you have more control because everybody is doing the same thing.

I suggested Jai invite his 3 best friends over for a play one day coz I figured they'd keep themselves occupied... I didn't even THINK about the noise that would ensue!! I won't be doing it again in a hurry!!
