Re: Dummy...

we did this for hunter when he would get out of bed i'd ask him for his dummy then I would put it up on the fridge and say something like ok lets put your dummy on the fridge now until bedtime. Then i'd push it back where he couldn't see it. If he asked i'd just keep reminding him that it was only for bed time and was he ready for bed? - he'd usually say no. Then at bed time i'd give it to him and remind him that i'd put it up on the fridge again in the morning it took maybe a week of doing this before he'd just give it to me and say put my dummy on the fridge - it was more a case of out of sight out of mind iykwim

We had to do it to because he would keep asking for it. We've taken it off him now but I didn't think he was ready to give it up completely so limited it to bedtime only to start with

he was just over 2 and we got rid of it just before his third birthday
I forgot to say that when he'd ask for it - i'd say no it's for bed time only blah blah then i'd distract him - would you like a drink, snack, where is such and such or do you want to read a book anything then if he asked me again while reading the book i'd say no remember it's just for bed I just kept repeating it over and over

Xavier still has a dummy for sleep. We hide it high in a cupboard when he is up. He gets it if he is really distressed/hurt. Otherwise we distract him and even give him a dab of bonjela

We want to get rid of it but we know he will drop is day sleep so until he drops the day sleep we will let him have it lol

I wouldn't give it to her unless it's in a few weeks once she knows it's for bedtime - i did let hunter have his in the car when travelling but not to soon after you implement the sleep only. I'd give it to him and say he could only have it if he was going to go to sleep otherwise he had to take it out of his mouth it usually worked sometimes he'd even fall asleep in the car without it.
