so i have just seen there are new rules coming into effect next month which come with pretty heafty fines and 3 point loss if not obeyed..
so i have a quick question..

DD3 who is 5 in april and 15kgs... sits in the middle back seat (generally) in a booster seat and has a noraml seat belt over her.. not a lap belt but a proper belt.. is this ok???? or is she ment to have a 5 point harness? and is it ment to be like this till she is 7?

Sorry i have only seen a quick new paper add so im not sure on all the details yet.

ETA: we are in QLD if that makes any difference

Does her booster have an anti submarining clip for the lap sash to go under? I think as long as she has this she is fine. They only need to have a 5 point built in harness until they're 4. :D I'd check the full rules though as all states seem to be slightly different.

I think you can buy the anti-sub clip separately and add it to existing boosters which use adult seatbelts?

An anti-submarine clip ensures the lap seat belt is correctly positioned on the child's thighs and hips, significantly reducing potential injury to vital organs with the abdomen.

A seat like the SNS Maxi Rider holds up to 26 kg and it includes an anti-submarine clip.

Quote:
The MaxiRider is a toddler seat and booster seat combined. It has deep wings for side impact protection, a push button harness adjuster, two cup holders which can be rotated in a stored position when not in use. The restraint also has arm rests as well as an upright or recline position. While in the toddler mode the restraint provides a 6 point harness and in the booster position an anti-submarine clip provides additional safety to the child. The restraint has the option of a recline and upright position in both the toddler and booster position as well as being anchored to the vehicle in both modes. The booster position can incorporate a H-harness or a seat belt locator ensures the correct positioning of the adult seat belt. The restraint features a three tone velour finish.

I assume you could buy a H harness or something to add to her seat though?

Quote:
- A ‘H’ Harness is an additional device that is used with a seat belt at the lap area. It needs to connect with the child restraint anchorage as well.
- A ‘Protecta’ harness is a relatively new device that works similarly to a ‘H’ harness except that the adjustment is in front of the child, secured under a cover. ( Benefit: Fits where the anchor is very close to the car seat i.e.; ‘short hook up’ situations)

ETA: Is her booster like this:

or this:

Yep :) It's a clip between their legs and it stops them form sliding under the adult seat belt.

Possibly. I've not seen any though and not sure how it would attach :-k

Yeah it seems that most of the convertible boosters like the Maxi Rider, have the clip built in.

There are ones like this too. Emma's little friend had one when he came in our car.

The seat belt just slides under that red clip in the front :thumb:
